Albert Robles Center

Mad's first PixelsEverywhere™ visitor center makes the complete water education story available in English and Spanish, with no fixed interpretive graphics.

Water education content fills the digital exhibit surfaces at ARC in Pico Rivera.

The first PixelsEverywhere™ implementation

100% language dignity.

The entire center can switch between English and Spanish within seconds. All the text everywhere changes, together with the narration and interactions.

The interpretive graphics are digital throughout. Visitors receive the complete version in their selected language, with the same space, scale and prominence. English and Spanish each carry the whole story. That is what we call 100% language dignity.

Further languages can be added when their complete content sets have been authored and approved. The same digital surfaces can carry those new versions as the community's needs evolve.

Water education in a working facility

A local story with a practical purpose.

The Water Replenishment District’s Albert Robles Center for Water Recycling and Environmental Learning connects its visitor center with the work of advanced water purification and groundwater replenishment.

Located in Pico Rivera, California, ARC helps visitors explore water resources, conservation, recycled water and environmental stewardship. Its Administration and Learning Center is LEED Platinum certified.

For the 2019 project, Mad combined digital interpretation on wireless QuickSilver® with custom physical exhibits. PixelsEverywhere™ makes the interpretive surfaces part of the complete language change.

Digital and physical design

Make the process tangible.

Mad created Fate of Rain, a physical water-cycle exhibit. The installation uses illuminated tubes, clouds and a model of Los Angeles and Pico Rivera to show the water cycle in a recognizable landscape.

Mad also contributed to the Tasting Room, where copper pipework and small brass and bronze figures form a sculpture that dispenses water. Visitors can connect the purification story with the water they taste.

These physical experiences sit alongside the digital interpretation. The project brings design, fabrication, media and technology into the same educational story.
